The digital inclusion of seniors is an increasingly important issue in our society where digital technology is becoming a major tool for interaction with others and an essential means of communication and transmission of information in our era.
To work on this theme, Pistes-Solidaires has just launched a European project supported by the Erasmus+ program. This project aims at empowering disadvantaged seniors over 65 years old, especially those who are facing social exclusion due to their limited participation in digital culture. Through carefully planned intergenerational activities, adults from marginalized groups will interact with young people, building relationships between generations while developing their digital capacity through interactions and activities around cultural heritage.
Therefore, Pistes Solidaires organized an online kick-off meeting on Thursday, January 13 and Friday, January 14, 2022, to launch the FLOURISH CENTERS project. The partners who took part in the meeting were: AIS (Austria), Exeo Lab (Italy), Innovation Hive (Greece) and Synthesis (Cyprus).
During these two days, we were able to discuss the stages of the project, ranging from the general presentation of the objectives and its ambitions to the results that will include an e-learning platform addressed to adults and adult educators to train around intergenerational communication and the creation of video material around cultural heritage through meeting spaces between young and seniors. These creations will later be used in an online exhibition, a new virtual concept inspired by metaverse.
FLOURISH CENTERS has a complete approach where experiential learning participates in the social and digital integration of seniors but not only! Young people will also benefit from this approach to develop their knowledge of cultural heritage and create links with a generation that they don’t necessarily have the opportunity to meet in their daily life or in their digital environment.
